How to apply for a home in Gloucestershire

We’re a member of the Gloucestershire Homeseeker Plus Partnership and let our homes through their Homeseeker Plus scheme. Before you can apply for a home in Gloucestershire you must register with Homeseeker Plus. You can do that here.

How Homeseeker Plus allocate housing is explained in their Common allocations policy document.

Homeseeker Plus will let you know what size property you are eligible for and which priority band you are in: emergency, gold, silver or bronze. Sometimes priority is given to people who have a local connection to the area where they’re applying for housing, so it may help if you do.

When properties become available, they’re advertised online and in local libraries, council, and housing association offices. To apply for the property, you need to make a bid, either on the website, by phone or by text message. You can bid for up to 3 properties per week.

Bids are open for one week. After they’ve closed, the property will usually be offered to the applicant in the highest band who meets the criteria stated in the advert and has been waiting the longest.

This new scheme is called choice-based letting, as you bid for a home of your choice rather than waiting to be allocated a property, as used to happen.

Please be aware you may not be able to secure a home in your preferred area. The Homeseeker Plus website explains how the process works, but if you have any questions, please call us on 01594 838 000 or email [email protected]. We’ll be happy to help you.
