Forest of Dean Armed Forces Support Network Survey -
The Armed Forces Support Network was set up in response to the commitment made by Forest of Dean District Council to the Armed Forces Covenant. The network identified that there is a need for a support network for serving and non-serving members of the Armed Forces and their families, particularly when the 2021 census figures showed 3915 residents in the Forest of Dean District identifying as a veteran – 5% of residents aged 16 and over.
The council would like to hear from anyone who is part of, or connected to, the Armed Forces family. For example, you may have served, be a reservist, be a spouse, child or sibling or care for someone who has served.
The aim of this survey is to identify needs and see how they can be met. We can put you in touch with the right support from our partner organisations and charities. You, or someone you know, could be entitled to benefits such as the HM Armed Forces Veteran Card, or the Veteran Aware accredited programme through GP surgeries which can make it quicker and easier to apply for support as a veteran.
Your feedback is valuable and will shape the way that services and support is available to members of the Armed Forces families across the Forest of Dean in the future.

This week is Mental Health awareness week and National Hoarding awareness week.
To create awareness and encourage good relationships with our tenants as well as our partner agencies, we wanted to show you a case in which we recently supported a tenant who was experiencing mental health problems.
Although this lady was initially worried about allowing us into her property, as she feared she would be in trouble, our Housing Services Officer explained that we were there to help and support her. Upon entering the property, it was clear that the tenant was not coping well and had a substantial amount of refuse accumulation in her home. The lady became upset and explained that due to her mental health she had been unable to take care of things, and things had got on top of her.
The Housing Services Officer reassured her that they were there to help to create a plan together to make a change. It was agreed that a letter would be written to her GP in support of offering mental health support, a deep clean was carried out on the property, (before and after pictures below) and the lady was provided with a bed, bedding and curtains through our hardship fund.
The Housing Services Officer also visits the tenant every few months, to ensure that she is still supported and managing well.
At Wyedean we pride ourselves on working together with our tenants and partner agencies to help and support wherever we can. Partner agencies we work with include – CCP, The Salvation Army, Adult Social Care, Child social services, CAB, amongst many others. If you are a tenant who needs support, please reach out to us. ...
